Péarlaí have been working with the Buttercrane, a busy shopping centre in Newry, for several years. Currently, the Buttercrane uses Péarlaí’s innovative contactless facility management system to monitor and manage the activity of the centre’s cleaning and security staff as they complete various jobs as well as monitoring the use of various assets around the centre. Péarlaí’s system has helped to increase compliance from 74% to 98% on average within the first 30 days of installation and has put the centre in a stronger position than ever to defend against public liability claims in the event of an accident.
The Buttercrane uses Péarlaí’s innovative contactless FM system for all members of their cleaning and security staff. Each member of staff is given a uniquely identified name tag or key fob with RFID technology built-in. These tags are picked up by strategically-placed readers throughout the centre as members of staff goes about their work. The contactless technology means that there is no room for human error, and staff embrace that they have no form of input they have to remember to make such as manually tapping or scanning a reader.
Using Péarlaí’s incident search feature Buttercrane management can see immediately which of their staff members where in an area when an incident happened helping them provide data to their insurance company quickly to resolve any potential claims. Individual staff members’ journey around the centre each day can be seen as well as staff members’ clock-in and clock-out times each day, all without any interaction necessary from staff. All data is saved on Péarlaí’s dashboard and the compliance percentage of both specific staff members or assets and more general compliance figures for each individual cleaning and security tasks can be viewed, so management staff are able to tell where their workforce can improve and where they are doing well.
The Buttercrane uses Péarlaí’s system to monitor several different jobs carried out by their cleaning and security staff. With the system, it can be ensured that the toilets are checked and cleaned every 50 minutes throughout the day. This helps the centre to maintain a high standard of hygiene and lower the risk of slip and trip accidents, which in turn will reduce public liability claims. Péarlaí’s system also helps to ensure that security staff are present at each key checkpoint every 30 minutes, which also helps to prevent accidents and ensures that a member of staff is always there to assist in cases like this.
Péarlaí’s unique RFID name tags and key fobs can also be used to monitor assets and pieces of equipment, and the Buttercrane uses this capability to ensure that the cleaning equipment are being used and that staff are using them as often as they should be. The Buttercrane monitors the use of their cleaners’ trolley to ensure that staff are taking it with them instead of putting it back after each use, as well as making sure that the vispa and ride-on cleaning machines are being used at least 3 times per week as per the facility management company’s contractual duties. If these tasks aren’t being completed as required or equipment isn’t being used as agreed, management staff can find out why and make steps to improve upon this and resolve any issues.
Using Péarlai’s “create an alert” feature, the Buttercrane’s management staff can be alerted if certain tasks are not being completed or if a staff member fails to turn up for their shift enabling them to react immediately to avoid any possible disruption to the centre’s operations.
“By replacing our old patrol monitoring system with the Péarlaí contactless FM system we have seen an overall increase in compliance levels by 20%. Our staff now never forget to tap at a checkpoint as the Péarlaí’s system eliminates human error and measures dwell time for us.” Peter Murray, Buttercrane shopping centre manager.
Features are continually being added to Péarlaí’s dashboard over time, so the Buttercrane Shopping Centre is becoming equipped with more and more useful tools to improve compliance, reduce staff workload and save money by strengthening their position to defend against public liability claims.
